Due to the redistricting process, John is up for re-election and would like to continue to represent District 5 with a strong voice and leadership.

After the newly aligned Commissioner maps, District 5 now includes the cities of Norwood Young America, Cologne, Carver, Hamburg, and New Germany and the townships of Young America, Camden, Dahlgren, Hancock, Benton, and San Francisco. (Laketown Township is no longer included in District 5).

Commissioner Fahey was first elected to represent District 5 in 2020. John would be proud to continue to serve the residents of District 5 and all of Carver County going forward and to help manage the fastest growing County in the State, which ranks first among all Minnesota counties as the healthiest for the 10th consecutive year.

Carver County is a great place to live, work, play, and operate a business and more importantly to raise your family. John and his wife Janet are lifelong residents of the County and have watched the County grow from 70,000 residents to the 2020 census number of 107,000+ people. They have raised their two adult sons John J. and Jerid while residing in Norwood Young America.

John was recently elected Vice Chair of the County Board and currently serves on multiple committees for the County. He is a member of the Association of MN Counties (AMC) Public Safety Policy committee, an AMC voting delegate, an alternate to the AMC Board of Directors, the Board liaison to the Carver County CDA and Planning Commission, serves on various Joint Ditch boards, a member of the Legislative Committee, the Metropolitan Emergency Services Board, the Fair Board, the Historical Society Committee, the Courts Committee, the MN Valley Regional Rail Authority, the State Community Health Services Advisory Committee, and the Water Management Organization Committee.

John states, “Having the opportunity to serve the County as a Commissioner has been rewarding and very challenging. As a first term Commissioner we are basically drinking from the fire hose, as we continue to learn and understand the various components of County Government.

“My past experience as the former Mayor of Norwood Young America, a District 108 School Board member, Chairperson of the CC Planning Commission while also serving on the County’s Board of Adjustments and Park Board, and a 29-year member of the NYA Lions, has helped tremendously to hit the ground running!

“With the expansion of Highway 212 and the ever-present challenges and pressures facing a rapidly growing county, continued leadership is crucial. I was humbled to be elected and challenged to run a successful campaign during the pandemic and would appreciate your support this fall.”
